What was is really like to run a 19th Century steamboat on Lake Chautauqua?

The Lawson Center was given the wonderful hand-written journal of Wallce A Gray who was an engineer on the steamboat City of Jamestown from 1824 to 1891.

We are digitizing the journal so that visitors can read it and also view this delicate and fascinating book. Read about the cargo and the passengers, the variety of steamboats plying the lake, the typical day on a steamboat as well as the not-so-typical mishaps.
